Archive Entry #002 — The Last Bus Home
Recorded: 1986 • Location: Lincolnshire
The bus was known locally as the late service, though it did not appear on any timetable.
It came through once a night, usually after eleven, sometimes later. People only noticed it if they were already waiting.
Those who boarded said it ran the usual route. The difference was the silence — no radio, no announcements, no sound from the engine.
One passenger recalled that no one spoke during the journey. Everyone sat facing forward, hands in their laps.
The bus stopped for him even though he had not raised his arm.
When the service was withdrawn, the shelter remained. Locals still avoid standing there after dark.
No company ever admitted to running the route.
