Archive Entry #007 — The Bench That Was Never Empty
Recorded: 1974 • Location: Norfolk Coast
The bench overlooked the sea and had been there for as long as anyone could remember.
Locals said someone always seemed to be sitting on it, regardless of the time of day or weather.
From a distance, the figure looked solid. Up close, there was never anyone there.
Several residents recalled greeting the figure as they passed, only realising later that the bench had been empty.
The council removed the bench during coastal repairs in the late seventies.
People still slow down when they reach the spot where it once stood.
